This spring, as part of the “Artificial Intelligence, Society, and Science” seminar series organized by Village of Sciences (Bilimler Köyü) Ankara, we are critically examining artificial intelligence through its historical, technical, and social dimensions. We cordially invite you to join our sessions, which cover a broad spectrum of topics—from political economy and Large Language Models (LLMs) to the nexus of energy and the environment, social inequalities, and the intersection of AI with art, literature, and ethics.
The fifth session of the series, titled “Artificial Intelligence, Inequalities, and Technofeudalism,” will feature contributions from Pınar Bedirhanoğlu and Özgür Narin.
Over the past decade, the integration of artificial intelligence across the entire sphere of production has accelerated at an extraordinary pace. In parallel, multi-dimensional debates have emerged regarding the impact of these advancements on social relations, particularly concerning employment and labor. This seminar will explore how AI technologies—with roots extending back to the early 20th century—reproduce the structural inequalities inherent in capitalist production relations. Furthermore, the discussion will adopt a critical perspective on the "technofeudalism" thesis, analyzing the novel mechanisms and opportunities these technologies provide to both capital and the state for the management and surveillance of social relations.
