Al Campbell is a professor emeritus of economics at the University of Utah (retired). His research and publications have focused on the nature and performance of contemporary capitalism, and the theoretical and empirical study of possible alternatives. He is the current Chair of the International Initiative for Promoting Political Economy (IIPPE), and the coeditor of the International Journal of Cuban Studies (IJCS). His most recent book is Cooperatives in Cuba (2026), and he is currently coordinating an editorial team putting out a book scheduled for early 2027 on the political economy of the world’s current environmental and ecological crisis.
